Why is Mixing Vessel Simulation Necessary Today?
20/01/2020
Predicting and understanding the real-world behavior is essential for all industries today. This also applies to the mixing process. Motivation is easy to define:
- IMPROVING EFFICIENCY
- Improve mixing (better, faster mixing)
- Reduced energy consumption (lower impeller speed or improved heat input/output)
- Higher throughput and yield
- FLEXIBILITY
- Green chemistry (transition from hydrocarbon-based chemistry to renewable feedstock)
- Variety of feed stock (feed stock may vary more and more, either slightly because of changes in the origin or by changing the product/process in an existing plant/unit/reactor)
- Process intensification (transition to smaller reactors, combination of different unit operations, new reactor concepts)
- COST REDUCTION
- Reduction of testing costs (CFD simulation is also inherently safe, which is useful when working with toxic or explosive materials)
- Increased reliability when expanding production
